To me, it really boils down to who you are as a person. If you can be happy in a structured job that asks you to use the same skills every day, then that is great. If you feel like there is something more for you out there, that you are designed to be challenged, not placated, then perhaps being your own boss is the right route for you.

Quick anecdote…When I first started {YEL!}, I would teach brick building classes, and I was known as Super LEGO Dude. I would occasionally be stopped at the local mall by a student of mine exclaiming to his mom, “Mom, that’s the guy. That’s Super LEGO Dude.” It always put a smile on my face and a bounce in my step.

Kamau’s business has done so well that his wife decided to leave her job and join Kamau running {YEL!}. Together they continue to build one of the strongest youth organizations in Minnesota.

Entrepreneur Franchising Info – Use this link to look up different franchiseopportunities, their initial investment, royalties, training, and other aspects that are important.
Simply scroll down to the Search bar and type in the name of the franchise you want to research.
MN Commerce Department – Some states require that franchises register 
their legal Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) with that state. The Minnesota Commerce Department has an online, searchable database where you can find FDDs for the franchises you are interested in.
- In “Area of Interest” choose, “Franchise Registrations”.
- In “Franchise Name” type in the name of the franchise you are looking for.
- Click “Search”
- Under “Document Type”, look for FDD or Clean FDD.
- NOTE: This website’s search function doesn’t give you a lot of room for error. Sometimes you have to type in the name of the franchise exactly to get the proper results.
- Only franchises registered in Minnesota will appear within this website database.
