Video Game Design for Kids
Video games are enticing for kids. Young learners often spend dozens of hours a week playing video games. Now, kiddos in grades k-2 can play video games they dreamed up, designed, and coded themselves.
Whether they are battling the evil Mordax to save the world in our Dragons and Unicorns: Fun and Fury class; saving the galaxy in our Force Warriors: Heroes of the Rebellion class; or solving the mystery of the megalomaniac goldfish in our Zootropolis class; students will learn multiple elements of video game design.
- Story arc.
- Character design and creation.
- Coding basics.
- Video Game theory and design.
- Game play and how it relates to the story and lore of the game they have created.
All of those elements are incorporated into our Video Game Design class.
Dragons and Unicorns: Fun and Fury
The evil wizard, Mordax, has a plan to take over the world. You must use your imagination, creativity, persistence, and vigor to battle Mordax and bring the world back into balance.
Force Warriors: Heroes of the Rebellion
Join our rebellion to storm across the galaxy, face fearsome foes, join the force warriors, and protect the galactic citizenry from the clutches of the dark knights.
Zootropolis
What is going on in Zootropolis? Why are some of the animals afraid? How did that zoo stampede start anyway? And why is the chief goldfish being so evasive?
You will need to use all your cunning and strategy to solve the mystery afoot in our beloved city of Zootropolis.
Video Game Design for Kids FAQ
Do I have to send my own tablet or laptop?
No. We provide all devices with the software.
Students will have opportunities to share their projects with their parents by emailing them to their parents. NOTE: The devices they email the projects to must have Scratch Jr on them in order to work.
Can older students join?
Can younger students join?
Our Video Game Design for Kids classes are crafted for students in grades k-2. PreK students may be able to keep up with the pace and the logic behind the code, but we have found that the large majority of PreK students will not be able to adequately design the code or games. We suggest younger students hold out until they are of the proper age.
